Salvador Dalí (Dalí to intimates) is a medium-sized dog of approximately 50 cm high and 16 kg. He was surrendered to the Portuguese shelter at the same time as another dog, because his owner had died.
Dalí is a sweet, cheerful dog. Of course, he has been through quite a bit, with all the moves and changes, but he has an optimistic attitude and makes the best of it. He is curious, learns quickly and is excellent to guide. You notice that he wants to do what is intended.
He likes to come and get a cuddle and hang out on your lap. Visitors are also greeted enthusiastically. He knows how to behave well in the house, does not wreck, is housebroken (except for the occasional accident) and hardly barks at all. He can also be alone for a while without any problems.
He really enjoys walking and walks neatly on a leash without pulling. We would prefer to see him live with one or more other dogs in the future, because he really needs contact with others of his kind. Regularly meeting up with dog friends could also be a solution.
We think Dalí would fit best in an active family that will do fun things with him. Enjoy walks together, play fun courses and games. He would also enjoy running with other dogs in a fenced off-leash field. He prefers to live in a house with a garden, but this can be replaced by sufficient outdoor activities. Although he handles the stimuli outside well, we don't really see him as a city dog. A quieter residential area or village would suit him better than a city center.
Living with children is possible, if they are preferably at least 8-10 years old and they have learned how to handle dogs. He may be a bit too enthusiastic and boisterous for smaller children.
Dalí does have a hunting instinct, but to what extent this plays a role in running loose during the walk cannot yet be properly assessed. If he encounters a cat on the street, he tends to chase it.
