Marcelo comes from a Portuguese shelter, but has been adopted in the Netherlands since 2020. Due to unfortunate circumstances, it is better for him to move.
Marcelo is an incredibly social and sweet dog. He loves coming to cuddle, likes everyone, and is extremely sociable with all types of dogs. You can easily take him anywhere with you, and anyone can visit you without any problems. He is a real softie, even towards children (provided, of course, that they have learned how to interact with dogs). He gets along well with other dogs and is perfectly fine with meeting unfamiliar dogs outdoors. For example, he could easily join a dog walking service.
Although he is a Portuguese Podengo, he does not display a clearly noticeable hunting instinct during walks. In the garden, however, he enjoys digging up a mouse hole or chasing away cats or birds. Nevertheless, there are signs that show he is a true Podengo. You should not expect to be able to teach him commands. He is pleasant to be around and is quite willing to adjust his behavior as desired, but he considers ‘sit’, ‘down’, and that kind of nonsense a real waste of time. He also loves—as befits a Podengo—to lie high up, for example on the windowsill or on the table, especially if there is a ray of sunlight there.
We do not know exactly what he experienced during his time in Portugal. For example, he is not at all afraid of traffic or people, but he does find reflective surfaces and fly swatters scary. He also really dislikes arguments and loud voices. If children are fighting or when you're vacuuming, he immediately goes outside to avoid the noise
His need for exercise is flexible. He enjoys a long walk, but staying at home is fine too. There is no noticeable difference in his mood. He is actually always cheerful and optimistic. What he does find really important: lying comfortably in the garden. That truly makes him happy.
Marcello is house-trained, but during periods of stress, he may lift his leg indoors to pee. This can be resolved with a diaper. He's fine to be at home and rarely barks, but despite not being the best guard dog he will let you know when someone is at the door or delivers your mail.
Who will give this amazing guy a wonderful third chance in life?
