Adoptions
We stand for care and commitment. We place great value on finding the right match between dog and owner, so they can enrich each other's lives and bring out the best in each other.
Home / Adoptions
Every dog counts
Adopting shelter dogs alone is not enough to solve the stray dog problem. Therefore, adoption is not the primary goal of Stichting Perro&Co. We focus mainly on prevention and providing solutions on the ground. Our goal is never to place as many dogs as possible, but to make the most wonderful matches possible. With every adoption, the world becomes a little bit better.
Careful, committed, and small-scale
We believe it is very important that an adopted dog and the new owner are a perfect match. That is why the dog first goes to a foster family in the Netherlands. This way, we get to know the dog well and can provide interested adopters with a lot of information about the dog.
The interested party can meet the dog, introduce it to any other pets, and calmly consider the decision. Our goal is not to place as many dogs as possible, but to make the most wonderful matches possible.
The adoption process
To ensure that dog and human are a perfect match, we have a careful adoption process. There is a reflection period between each step, and a final decision is only made after the home visit.
Terms and Conditions
Upon adoption, we draw up an adoption contract. The most important conditions are that the adopter must take good care of the dog, may not give or resell it to others without the foundation's involvement and (in the case of a puppy) must have the dog sterilized/neutered as soon as this is medically justified.
If the dog cannot stay with the adopter, we as a foundation always want to be given the opportunity to take the dog back.
Extra vet check
Each dog is examined by a veterinarian before departure to the Netherlands, but also after arrival, and treated if necessary. This way you have the maximum possible certainty about the health of the dog.
Because we operate on a small scale, we are able to place dogs in this careful and committed manner.
Aftercare
Even after adoption, we remain involved and will assist the adopter if things are sometimes difficult. Some dogs will adapt to their new life without any problems, others may need a little more attention and time.
As an adopter, you maintain close contact with aftercare volunteer Corrie, who has a lot of experience and is well-trained (see here ). You receive free coaching for as long and as often as needed. Where necessary, we can call upon the assistance of a behavioral therapist. For adoption, you receive a document in which the most important tips are listed.
The costs
The adoption costs amount to €500. This amount is structured as follows:
- €150 contribution to the shelter (vaccinations, passport, microchip, sterilization, blood test)
- €250 transport
- €25 traces registration (legally required)
- €10.65 chip registration upon arrival in the Netherlands (legally required)
- €7.50 deworming (2x extra)
- €0 extra vet check
- €56.85 fund foster expenses

Successful adoptions
Although we operate on a small scale and are not focused on numbers, it is wonderful to see how many dogs we have been able to help find a good home over the years.
