Mika comes from a Portuguese shelter, but has been adopted in the Netherlands since 2021. Due to unfortunate circumstances, it is better for her to move.

Mika is a small dog with a big personality. Without wanting to offend anyone, we must acknowledge that she is not exactly a beauty queen with her short legs, long body, and tongue that always hangs crookedly out of her mouth. She thinks otherwise, though. Mika is a true diva with an incredibly endearing character. She loves cuddling and attention. If you forget to give her that, she will unashamedly thrust herself upon you. She is a quick-witted lady who always manages to make you laugh.

Despite her advanced age, she is still quite willing to play with other dogs or toys. However, she does not appreciate boisterous, pushy dogs. She is not afraid to snap at them if they bother her. And who can blame her?

Although she is a manageable size, she is certainly not a ‘handbag dog’. In fact, she finds being picked up terrifying. Petting and attention are nice, but if she thinks you want to pick her up, she takes off running. Something nasty must have happened to her at some point, and she hasn't been able to unlearn that fear. So, no rides in the bike basket, carrying her up the stairs in your arms, and the like for her. She does appreciate being pampered in the form of putting sweaters on her, though. Especially now that she is getting on in years, she is quite sensitive to the cold.

When she first arrived from Portugal, she lived with a foster family with cats for a short time, and she had no problem with that at all. She is also fine with children, provided they leave her alone, of course. She gets along excellently with dogs, but not with very boisterous ones that bother her.

Mika isn't a barker, but she does ‘chatter’ to you. For example, when she’s happy you come home, or when it’s dinnertime. She barks at the doorbell or when she thinks there is trouble. Mika is extremely allergic to tripe and chicken. She really chews her paws raw. If you avoid these foods, there is absolutely no problem.

Mika is an elderly lady who can no longer walk much. We are looking for a place for her where not much is expected of her and where she can comfortably enjoy her golden years. Medically, she is doing well now, but at this age, some age-related ailments are naturally to be expected. Therefore, subject to consultation, there is the possibility of a reduced adoption fee, and under certain conditions, it is also possible to become a permanent foster family, in which case the foundation remains responsible for the costs. Here you'll find more information about that

Who may come to grace Mika with her company for the final part of her life?
