Ronja was found wandering on the street. Probably abandoned by someone who no longer wanted her. Unfortunately this is all too common in Portugal. Once in the Portuguese shelter, she had a hard time. A shelter is after all not a place for an old dog that needs comfort and rest.
Fortunately, Ronja was able to come to the Netherlands to first relax a bit with a host family. It turned out that Ronja really is an old lady: her hearing is not so good anymore and she has a bit of cataract. Her condition was poor at the beginning, but by now it has improved a lot and she has also gained a little weight.
Since May 2026, Ronja has been adopted by a loving forever foster family. This makes Ronja officially a Project Senior dog, and we will regularly share videos and photos of her daily adventures on our socials.
Her new family has welcomed her with open arms, complete with a brand-new dogbed and a 'Welcome home Ronja' sign on the front door. What luck for this sweet lady. And she is genuinely sweet! On the street, she walks calmly on the leash and greets people and other animals in a friendly manner. At home, she proves to be a real companion dog and likes to be with her people to see what they are all doing.
Like every dog, she has her own little personality and she turned out to prefer the much too small cat bed over the large dog bed that was ready for her. Doesn't matter, Ronja, as long as you're lying comfortably!
