Lonneke interviewed Nancy Peppels-Wijninga from Stichting Dawn Tail Dusk. Through her foundation, she sponsors no less than 20 dogs in our disease prevention project. Nancy talks about her love for animals and why she is a sponsor.
I’m probably not the only one curious about how a dog is doing after adoption, and today I’m doubly lucky: I received an update from adopter Dorien about a very special adoption, namely that of two Perro and co lucky dogs at the same time!
Petra Vervoort is passionately committed to Perro & Co. by managing the sponsorship program, creating a personal connection between sponsors and stray dogs in Portugal. With her deep love for dogs and focus on their well-being, she and her other volunteers make a real difference.
Lonneke tells how she has taught her sensitive dog Isi to get used to fireworks sounds step by step, so that he can get through New Year's Eve relaxed despite the banging. Thanks to a calm build-up, safety and many positive associations, Isi is now mainly looking forward to his job — and Lonneke hopes above all for a fireworks-free future for people and animals.
Lonneke shares the special story of her three pets — dogs Paco and Sol and cat Maus — who miraculously made themselves heard after their passing: the same lamps and the electric fireplace always turned on at meaningful moments. Later, when dog Isi and cat Mia came into the house, it happened again, as if the three musketeers were giving their approval to their new housemates.
The Perro & Co Foundation focuses with Project Senior on rescuing older Portuguese dogs, who are often left behind in shelters and require a lot of medical care and comfort. Thanks to foster families, sponsors, and the commitment of veterinarian MARK, these dogs are able to enjoy a loving old age, like Dalila and Luna, who were able to live happily despite their ailments.
Lonneke beschrijft hoe adoptiehond Isi met kleine stapjes leerde wennen aan buiten wandelen, waarbij veiligheid en geduld belangrijk waren na enkele angstige momenten. Inmiddels geniet hij vooral van bos- en heidewandelingen, terwijl drukkere plekken minder zijn favoriet blijven.
Lonneke vertelt hoe hun nieuwe adoptiehond Isi verrassend makkelijk gewend raakte aan zijn nieuwe thuis, behalve aan de televisie die hij in eerste instantie doodeng vond. Dankzij een onverwachte “shocktherapie” van poes Maus verloor Isi echter snel zijn angst en konden ze al gauw samen ontspannen tv-kijken.
