Story: Tarzan is a 9-year-old dog whose story is sadly similar to many others in the country. One day, an elderly person with mobility issues came to our shelter looking for a barking dog, preferably a puppy. Since we couldn’t guarantee the behavior of adult dogs in new homes, nor that a puppy would bark in the future, we decided not to place any animal with them. Unfortunately, they left and soon adopted a microchipped dog elsewhere. Not long after, Tarzan was found wandering the streets of Gafanha da Nazaré. When picked up, his microchip was scanned, and we were contacted because it was registered to a facility in the municipality of Mira. The owner denied abandoning him but admitted they didn’t want him back because he didn’t bark.
