Een week in het Portugese asiel<\/h2>\n

Zes dagen lang begonnen mijn dagen om 8.00 uur en was ik vaak tot 18.00\/19.00 uur in het asiel te vinden.<\/p>\n

Mijn dagen bestonden vooral uit wandelen. Bijna iedere dag liep ik ruim 15 kilometer om zoveel mogelijk honden even uit hun kennel en het asiel mee naar buiten te nemen. Sommige honden met veel energie probeerde ik iedere dag mee te nemen, terwijl ik van andere wist dat dit misschien wel hun enige wandeling van de week zou zijn.<\/p>\n

Juist die wandelingen zijn mij het meest bijgebleven. Even alle tijd om te snuffelen, de omgeving te ontdekken en tussendoor natuurlijk te stoppen voor een knuffel. De honden zijn iedere ochtend z\u00f3 blij wanneer je het terrein op komt. Dat geeft ontzettend veel voldoening, maar is tegelijkertijd ook hartverscheurend. Er zijn simpelweg te veel honden om ze allemaal de aandacht te geven die ze verdienen.<\/p>\n

E\u00e9n van de honden die mij in het bijzonder is bijgebleven, is Alegria. Iedere ochtend ging ik samen met Alegria en Sia op pad en je zag aan alles hoeveel Alegria van dat moment buiten genoot. Ze wacht al lange tijd in het asiel op haar eigen thuis. Voor Alegria zijn we momenteel op zoek naar een fijn gastgezin in Nederland. Hopelijk krijgt ook zij binnenkort de kans om het asiel achter zich te laten. \u2764\ufe0f<\/p>\n

Voor mij vat \u00e9\u00e9n zin deze week perfect samen: \u201cThe point of volunteering? To remind them they\u2019re loved.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ze even laten ervaren hoe het is om alle aandacht te krijgen. Om te wandelen, te snuffelen, te spelen en geknuffeld te worden. Zodat zij de hoop niet opgeven. Want hoe lang ze ook moeten wachten, wij geven die hoop voor hen ook niet op. \u2764\ufe0f\ud83d\udc3e<\/p>\n
