When Sharron saw a plea for help for the seven-week-old pup, she stepped in. Born without front legs, Rico was set to be euthanized, but Sharron was determined to give him a chance and welcomed him into his “furever” home. Due to his disability, Rico will remain at Cacela Dog Haven as an “honoured resident.” After 10 weeks, he was bunny-hopping, eating and drinking on his own, and finally sleeping through the night. Rico’s determination has given him incredibly strong back legs! On December 15, 2020, he traveled to Lisbon with Treve to be fitted for a custom set of wheels designed to handle Cacela Dog Haven’s pebbled terrain. Once Covid restrictions eased, he returned for the final fitting and collection. While the wheels have given him newfound freedom, Rico still seems to prefer bounding around on his powerful back legs!
